Unmult After Effects
The 'deMult_black' is a common way to knock out the blacks. Apply it in order: 1. 'Levels' to crush the blacks(optional) 2. 'Shift Channels' and set the alpha to luminance 3. 'Remove color matting' to get rid of the rest of the blacks on the edges The 'deMult_white' uses the same techinque, but incl.
Unmult After Effects Cc
Third-party unmult plug-ins for After Effects are used to create a composite with an alpha channel of a layer based on luminance or brightness. They're often used instead of composite modes like Screen that don't create an alpha channel. Alpha channels were discussed in a companion post recently. Hey, back in CS4 I used to use Knoll Unmult all of the time in my motion graphics and composites. Dramatical murder gameplay. But in CS5.5 it became obsolete due to the x64 upgrade issue (and understandable lack of support from RedGiant). The fix was to use Alpha From Max Color, but that too has now become unusable since Pixel Bender was (not understandably) dropped from CS6. I saw an earlier post where Todd mentioned a way of doing it without 3rd party plug-ins, but when I tried it I wasn't able to get the same result as unmult (my layer lost saturation).
